The original Solicii sculpture was burned in an act of arson. But it was recently rebuilt.

The sculpture and its story of resilience and rebirth helped inspire me to write the poem below for some special people in my life who are going through some trying times. And maybe, in reality it’s for all of us.
The Scent of Sorrow and Sunshine
(For G., J., and K. as they face their challenges)
By Morgan O’Donnell
Apathetic
Untethered
Tepid
In the desert she prays
Building shrines from the mud of her mind
Whispers “touch me, see me, hear me”
Apathetic
Untethered
Lost
Waiting for some fiery angel
To smite her with that flaming sword
Sparking the icy blood in her veins
Apathetic
Disconnected
Overwhelmed
Despair and joy dance together, one coin
Before Janus or Jesus there was Shakti
Creation and destruction intertwined
Apathetic
Listless
Indifferent
Out of ashes The Solicii rise
Bittersweet, the scent of sorrow and sunshine
The deepest roots grow in darkness
Solace in sanctuary
Empowering resilience
Revitalizing connectedness
Till hope reincarnates
In one energy
